Color Blind

Is it possible that colors are detrimental to common sense?

Crayola recently eliminated a color. Dandelion.

When I heard of this, I learned two things I had not known before: 1) Dandelion was a color; and 2) corporations can arbitrarily declare nec color grata (color no longer welcome).

But why dandelion? And was any concern raised as to how will this impact the world? Will all future pictures and drawings of dandelions be restricted to black and white? I have no idea, but it gave me pause to wonder what would happen if other colors were to be eliminated.

How would we designate many of the commonplace objects, actions, or opinions we describe based on color? How would we refer to STOP or GO without red and green? Where would we put Republicans and Democrats without the ability to color red or blue states? What would happen to the manner in which we differentiate ethnic groups? What happens to the environment if we can't GO GREEN? Will my LBGTQ friends miss the rainbow? (I will.)

How will we identify what MATTERS? Instead of Black, Brown, Blue, etc., will we just have to say "LIVES MATTER". (Would that be bad?)

Hmmmmmm.

Maybe the ability to just eliminate a color is not a bad idea. Perhaps if it wasn't so easy to play the color card, it might cause us - however briefly - to pause and question if we are truly different and if it matters anyway.

So as I begin a search for common sense, I ask, "does common sense work best if it avoids operating with parameters defined by shades? hues? or contrasts of colors?

Should we restrict Common Sense to actions which are colorless, and based solely on RIGHT OR WRONG?

I appreciate feedback of all kinds - positive, negative, affirmations, and completely different perspectives to my posts. If you have anything to share, please comment below, or send me an email: gregfarrcommonsense@yahoo.com

I post quotes from emails I receive. If you don't want credit, just say so in your email, otherwise, I will give you credit for the quotes I use.
